Also called the HIV Drug Resistance Study, MTN-009 assessed the prevalence of HIV drug resistance in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Results, published in 2013, found the prevalence of HIV drug resistance was 7.4 percent, with the majority of women with resistance having virus with the K103N mutation that confers resistance to most drugs in the class of ARVs called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
